But Bango is a billing aggregator, and their content partners tend to be ringtone/video sales sites.
Sites that are hardly targeted to the iPhone since it isn't even possible to download a ringtone on the phone without going through iTunes and hence ignoring Bango completely.

I would venture to say that while it is true that Bango has a unique perspective on mobile traffic, it is exactly this area - the realm of the iPhone/mob-marketing - where it is rather weak and probably has a somewhat (if not wholly) distorted view.
How many of these iPhone specific sites (and there are more and more cropping up these days) actually use Bango (I would venture to say zero or very very few).

I think the iPhone is inherently at odds with Bango. The iPhone is the driving force these days behind the surge in mobile marketing (IMO)... Bango on the other hand doesn't really belong in the mobile marketing arena (well in the strictest application of the concept anyway).

As for iPhone market share... I disregard that out of hand. People who buy standard phones tend to be the standard type of mobile user... i.e. they are very unlikely to actually browse the mobile internet. People who buy the iPhone on the other hand I think are very much more likely to browse the net on it.

That's my opinion anyway... use it. dont use it.

Disclaimer: I don't own an iPhone, and I earn my bread by making "normal" mobile sites for "normal" mobile phones.
